Forming a group: roles and world residents
A party of 3 or 5 heroes, which roles each class can take, the “everyone or no one” rule and how world residents fill the empty spots.
You go into a Dungeon as three, and into a Raid or against a World boss as five. Every spot in the party has its own role.
Party makeup
| Location | Spots | Roles |
|---|---|---|
| Dungeon | 3 | tank, healer, damage dealer |
| Raid, World boss | 5 | tank, healer, 3 damage dealers |
Which roles each class can take
| Class | Roles |
|---|---|
| Lightbringer, Druid | tank, healer, damage dealer |
| Barbarian, Revenant | tank, damage dealer |
| Priest, Stormbringer | healer, damage dealer |
| Mage, Warlock, Ranger, Rogue | damage dealer only |
You pick your role on the Dungeon screen before queueing — only the roles your class can take are shown. What each role does in a fight is covered in Group roles.
Three ways in
- Queue. Pick a role and join the queue: world residents fill the free spots.
- As a group. The group leader queues everyone at once with “Queue as a party”, and world residents fill the empty spots.
- Solo. Dungeons only — not raids or world bosses. The game warns you that it’s almost impossible alone.
Everyone or no one
A group of live players joins the queue only as a whole. If even one member doesn’t qualify, nobody goes, and everyone sees why:
- a member is offline;
- their level is outside the location’s range;
- there’s no free role left for their class;
- the group has more heroes than the party has spots.
Example: a Mage and a Warlock can’t go into a Dungeon together — there’s only one damage dealer spot, and neither can take another role.
World residents in empty spots
An empty spot is taken by a world resident — a real hero with their own name, class, gear and talents; you can open their profile in the Armory. They’re picked like this:
- the role from their specialization matches the spot’s role;
- their level is within ±5 of the run’s level and inside the location’s range;
- their strength matches an average player of that class and level — not noticeably stronger or weaker.
Residents only take empty spots — they never push out a live player. More: World residents.
FAQ
Can I go into a Dungeon with just one friend?
Yes: queue as a group, and a world resident takes the third spot. Just check your roles — a tank and a healer can go, but two pure damage dealers can’t.
