Heirloom items: how they work
Heirloom (red) items grow with your hero and give bonus experience for every slot and for a 6/12/15 set. Who can wear them and how enchants work.
Heirloom items are the red rarity. An heirloom always “fits”: its stats are recalculated at every hero level, so a piece you put on at level 1 is just as good at level 60.
Stats
- Three stats: Power, Health and Hardiness. There’s no Resilience (PvP protection) in the base.
- Strength sits between a blue and an epic item of the same level: ×1.175 a blue one.
- An heirloom grows with your hero: the required level on the card is your hero’s level, marked “grows with you”, and its “Item Level” is counted from it (187 at level 60, like a blue).
- Enchants and sharpening go on top of the three base stats and can even add Resilience.
Experience bonus
Every equipped heirloom gives its own experience bonus — 1 to 5% depending on the slot, double for a two-handed weapon. On top of that comes the set bonus, based on how many heirlooms you wear:
| Worn | Set bonus |
|---|---|
| 6 | +8% experience |
| 12 | another +10% experience and +10% Hardiness |
| 15 | another +15% experience and +15% Power |
In total the set gives up to +33% experience — on top of the individual items’ bonuses. It applies to experience from enemies, quests and dungeons. A full set is 17 slots (16 if your class doesn’t use a ranged weapon). Per-slot percentages are in the Heirloom items reference.
Who can wear them
- Heirlooms come from the Battle Pass premium track, and you can wear them while you have that premium: Pass rewards.
- The exceptions are the starter heirloom ring every new hero receives and heirlooms gifted to your account: those are worn without premium.
- Heirlooms stay with your hero: they can’t be listed on the auction, traded, sold to the Merchant or disenchanted — only deleted.
FAQ
What happens to heirlooms without premium?
You can’t put them on, and the ones you’re wearing (except gifted ones) go back to your bag and wait there. With premium you can wear them again.
Should I swap an heirloom for an epic?
In raw strength an epic of the same level is better. But an heirloom gives experience and the set bonus, so while you’re levelling it’s usually the better deal. Compare them before swapping: Comparing items.
