Equipment: slots, armor and weapons

The 19 slots on your hero, which armor each class wears, shields, dual wielding, two-handed weapons, relics and an item’s required level.

Your hero has 19 equipment slots. Three rules decide what you can wear: armor weight, weapon proficiency and level.

The 19 slots

  • Armor (8): head, shoulders, chest, wrists, hands, waist, legs, feet.
  • Accessories (6): back (cloak), neck, two rings, two trinkets.
  • Weapons (3): main hand, off-hand, ranged.
  • Appearance (2): shirt and tabard. Ordinary shirts and tabards give no stats — only unique (turquoise) ones do.

Armor: your own weight and anything lighter

WeightClasses
PlateBarbarian, Lightbringer, Revenant
MailRanger, Stormbringer
LeatherRogue, Druid
ClothPriest, Mage, Warlock

A class wears armor of its own weight and anything lighter: a plate wearer can put on mail or cloth too. But in a loot roll you can only declare “Need” on armor of your own weight: Loot rolls. Cloaks, necklaces, rings and trinkets suit everyone.

Weapons

  • Shield — Barbarian, Lightbringer, Stormbringer.
  • Dual wielding — Rogue, Ranger, Barbarian, Revenant, Stormbringer: a second one-handed weapon in the off-hand gives its full stats.
  • Tome or orb in the off-hand — Priest, Mage, Warlock, Druid; the orb also for the Stormbringer.
  • Two-handed weapons take both hands. Staves and polearms are always two-handed; swords, axes and maces come in both kinds. Equip a two-hander and your off-hand is cleared.
  • Ranged: a bow for the Barbarian, Ranger and Rogue, a wand for the Priest, Mage and Warlock. Four classes have their own relic here: a libram for the Lightbringer, a Seal of Death for the Revenant, a totem for the Stormbringer, an idol for the Druid.

Which weapons each class can use is in the Armor and weapons reference.

Required level

A regular item can be worn from the level it was made for: an item made for level 25 is worn from level 25. In the tooltip that’s the “requires level N” line — don’t confuse it with “Item Level”, a number on a scale up to 280 (see Item level). Next-tier PvP gear (Item Level 213, not sold right now) requires level 60, and heirlooms grow with your hero.

FAQ

Why can’t I equip an item?

There are four reasons: the wrong armor weight, your class can’t use that weapon, your level is too low, or it’s an heirloom and you don’t have the Battle Pass premium. The game shows the reason in red on the item card.

Can I switch outfits quickly?

Yes: save up to three equipment sets and put any of them on in one click.
