How to fish: bites, hooking, the journal
Fishing in Zarhold: 11 lands with water, a bite in 3–8 seconds, 4 seconds to hook, double catches, a pause after 10 catches and how skill grows.
Fishing is a secondary profession: free for everyone and taking no slot. Learn it on the Professions screen with the "Learn" button, and a Fishing Spot appears by the water on land maps.
Where to fish
Only where the land's picture shows water: 11 lands out of 26. For example, Brightdale and Crimson Wastes (skill 1+), Lakeridge (46+), Crater of Wonder (256+). The scene by the water comes in three kinds — lake, river or swamp. Other lands have no fish, and the game tells you: "There is no water here".
To cast, your skill must be at least the land's requirement: 1 + (land's base level − 1) × 5. Which fish bites where is in the Fishing reference.
How to fish
- Tap the Fishing Spot on the land map — the scene by the water opens.
- Press "Cast" — the float drops into the water.
- Wait: a bite comes in 3–8 seconds.
- "A bite!" — you have 4 seconds to press "Hook" or click the float.
- Too slow — the fish is gone; cast again.
The "Auto" button hooks for you, with the same catch. About one successful cast in five brings a double catch.
The fish stop biting
After 10 catches in a row in one land the fish leave for 2 minutes — the scene shows a countdown. You can wait it out or go to water in another land, where the count starts over.
How skill grows
Every hook gives 1 point by the usual colour rule — from the requirement of the fish that's biting. When a land becomes easy, the game says "No skill gain — the fish here are too easy for you": move to higher water.
The exception: the best fish available to you gives a point for every catch until the next tier opens somewhere — so your skill never gets stuck between tiers. In Dustmire, from skill 206, Frost Fish bite instead of Coastal Fish.
Fishing Journal
The journal lists 8 kinds of fish: where each one bites and how many you've caught. All fish go to Cooking: from skill 80 every dish needs fish. Spare fish can be sold at the Auction House.
If you unlearn Fishing, the journal and achievements stay.
