How Zarhold’s zones work

Zarhold has 26 zones, each with five spots: a regular enemy, a pack, a hunt, an elite and a boss. When a zone opens up and when it counts as cleared.

Zarhold’s world is made of 26 zones with enemies from level 1 to level 59. You travel from zone to zone: each one has five enemy spots, a quest board and its own boss.

The five spots of every zone

Every zone has a base level, and all its spots are counted from it:

SpotLevelWho’s there
Regular enemybasea single foe
Pack+1a fight against 3–5 enemies at once
Hunt+1a second single foe
Elite+2a reinforced enemy
Zone Boss+3the lord of the zone, just one

At every spot except the boss, enemies take turns: one level below the spot, exactly its level, and one level above. Beat one and the next steps up. The levels and enemies of every zone are in the Zones reference.

Zone level requirements

  • Entering a zone: your level must be at least the zone’s base level minus 2. A level 15 zone opens at level 13.
  • Enemy colour shows the level gap. An enemy 5 or more levels below you is grey and gives no experience. You can’t attack an enemy 7 or more levels above you (the “skull”). Details: Enemy colour.
  • The Zone Boss unlocks once your level reaches the boss’s level (base + 3). You don’t have to clear every other enemy first.

What fights give

A win gives experience and copper, sometimes an item. A pack pays more than a regular enemy, an elite more than a pack, and the boss most of all — see Packs, elites and zone bosses. Item odds are in the Open-world loot reference.

Auto-battle (unlocked by the Battle Pass premium) only works on regular enemies and packs. Elites and Zone Bosses are always fought by hand.

Clearing a zone

A zone is cleared once all 12 of its quests are turned in and its boss is defeated. The world map shows how many quests you’ve turned in for each zone and whether the boss is still alive. Clearing resets nothing: your level, gear and money stay with your hero, and you can come back to the zone at any time. Exploring and clearing zones earns achievements.

FAQ

What do I lose if I lose a fight?

Only durability: every defeat in the open world takes 1 point of durability from each equipped item. Details: Durability and repair.

Do I have to go through the zones in order?

No. Enter any zone your level allows, but watch the enemy colour: enemies that are too easy give no experience.
