Packs, elites and zone bosses

How a pack, an elite and a Zone Boss differ from a regular enemy: experience, copper, loot, when the boss unlocks and why copper drops on repeat fights.

Besides regular enemies, every zone has a pack, an elite and a boss. They’re tougher — and pay better.

Enemy comparison

EnemySpotExperienceCopperPass points
Regularbase level and +1×1×11
Pack (3–5 enemies)+1×1.35×1.52
Elite+2×2.6×34
Zone Boss+3×3.6×612

The multipliers apply to the reward for a regular enemy of the same level; pass points also get 0.15 per enemy level. Experience and copper vary a little from fight to fight, and experience is also adjusted by enemy colour: higher enemies give more, lower ones less, grey ones nothing.

Loot from elites and bosses

A regular enemy’s item chance per fight: grey 18%, green 2.5%, blue 0.6%. A pack is slightly better but never drops epics. Epics and legendaries come only from elites and bosses:

  • Elites from level 20: an epic item at 1.2% per fight.
  • Zone Bosses roll loot twice. Per roll: epic 2% (from level 20), legendary 0.4% (from level 30; the server makes this roll).

Full odds tables, plus cloth and meat from enemies, are in the Open-world loot reference.

The Zone Boss

  • Unlocks once your level is at least the boss’s level — the zone’s base level plus 3.
  • Every boss has a quest, and turning it in gives a separate item — see Quests.
  • Elites and bosses are fought by hand only: auto-battle doesn’t work on them, and a boss has no “Fight again” button on the results screen.

Repeat fights and copper

The more often you fight the enemies at one spot, the less copper they give: ×0.8 for every earlier kill at that spot, but never below a quarter of the full amount and never below 3 copper. Experience and item odds don’t change with repeats. A green enemy gives 60% copper, a grey one 35%. So it pays to keep moving through spots and zones instead of standing in one place.
