Duels: challenges, the challenge board and rules

How to challenge any hero to a duel, how the challenge board works and the duel rules: a minute per turn, no consumables or mulligan, residents are training.

A duel is a live one-on-one fight against another player's hero: you take turns, each playing your own cards. You can challenge any hero of any level.

How to challenge

  • Use the name menu in chat, the hero inspect window or the party frame — the "Challenge to a duel" option.
  • A challenge waits 60 seconds for an answer, and the opponent must be online.
  • You can send at most 6 challenges a minute.
  • When declining, the opponent can tick "don't accept from this player" — then you can't challenge them for 15 minutes.

Challenge board

Nobody to fight? Open the Arena, the Duels tab and the Challenge board.

  • It lists heroes looking for an opponent right now: online and not in a fight, up to 30 entries, newest first.
  • Post yourself: an entry stays for 20 minutes and is removed once your duel ends.
  • You can announce a stake straight away: none, or 1, 3, 5, 10, 25, 50 or 100 gold.

Duel rules

  • Each turn lasts 60 seconds, the first one gets 20 extra while the board loads.
  • 3 missed turns in a row mean defeat.
  • 90 seconds without a connection means a technical defeat.
  • The fight is a draw if it reaches 120 turns, 1,500 actions or 45 minutes.
  • Consumables, activated items and the opening mulligan are not used: your deck, talents, gear, class power and racial ability decide.
  • Your opponent's hand and deck are shown as card backs: you see how many cards they have, not which. The server handles every random roll.
  • The general PvP combat rules apply.

Record and training

Every duel against a live opponent stays in both players' history forever: wins, losses, streaks, wins against each class. Any hero's record is also visible on the website in the Armory.

A fight against a world resident is training: the resident accepts within 5–10 seconds, but the fight counts for neither record nor rating, and has no rewards or stakes. It is handy for testing a deck.

The duel rating is the Honor Circle; playing for gold and items is covered in Duel stakes.
